Website Information
Here you will find a bit more information about the site and also how and why it was created.
Basic Site Information
The first version of the site went online in November of 2005. Back at that point, there really wasn't much Rosa related material in the US outside of the original releases and the Playstation port. So quite honestly, the site didn't have much to offer. The art gallery was tiny only composed of two Amano pictures and a chibi. I left the poor site in a sad unupdated state for several years.
When I finally got around to playing the DS version of the game, I felt very disheartened that I let this poor site go to waste. So I spent some quality time writing new content and expanding the site to reflect the changes that occured to the story since 2005. We're told a lot more about the story and characters than we originally were just a few years ago.
The current design features Rosa from The After Years. I haven't yet had an opportunity to play these games as my boyfriend decided he wanted to sell his Wii right when I was ready to buy the first episode. However, the art does look very lovely and I thought it'd make a nice layout. I also took a good deal of time to buff up the information and media section for the site's reopening, but there's still a lot that needs to be added.
Why Rosa?
It's a common thing around here for me to create tributes to often forgotten and underappreciated characters in video games. With Final Fantasy IV's newfound fame, all the attention from the fans is placed on Kain and Rydia. Although there's a decent amount placed on Cecil, especially with the release of Dissidia. However, Rosa tends to get the short end of the stick, although not as badly as Edward. However, Rosa does play a very signifigant role in the story. But she's often dismissed as a damsel in distress-- too gentle and kind. On the other hand we have spunky and cute Rydia. While I love all the characters, Rosa has always been my favorite. She's always my on-screen character whenever she's in the party regardless what version of the game I play. I personally feel there's a lot of wonderful qualities in Rosa that are ignored or forgotten. So, I honestly created this site in hopes of opening people's eyes to what a great character she is.
Is this site based more on the DS version?
Not particularly. The main reason why I've scattered DS cutscene images throughout the site is because they honestly look better and are more visually interesting than plopping sprite screens everywhere. I also chose a lot of the DS quotes in various parts of the site. Honestly? They're closer to the original Japanese version of the game and are more truer to character. However, if it honestly came down to which version of the game I prefer, I'd probably have to say the Advance port. I do prefer old school pixels to 3D chibis. But I like how the pixels have been updated (likely the same ones for the Japanese Wonderswan). Having played VI on SNES before IV, I didn't initially like IV all that much. But over the years and many play throughs on various systems, I've grown to love it.
As for the DS version? I think it's very enjoyable seeing the story and characters again in modern gaming technology. However, I honestly think that it's a game for the original fans. If you played the DS version without having played the original long before then, I'm not sure it would have the same impact. Furthermore, if you came into IV with only having the games from the last decade under your belt, it'd probably seem pretty lackluster. In reality, FFIV (as well as the other pre-3D era games) are about the experience not so much the game itself. "You Spoony Bard" doesn't have the same impact to an FF IV newbie as it does to someone who played it on the original SNES and thought "WTF?!"
Who are you?
I'm Bobbi. I'm in my late twenties (eek!), and I'm a freelance artist and webdesigner amoung other things. I've been playing the Final Fantasy series since I was 13 years old. You can find out more about me at December Rain as well as some of my other sites.
